Your first visit
Thank you for choosing Lanier Family Healthcare for your health care needs. During your first visit, you will meet our staff, complete a few brief forms and, of course, meet your doctor. As family physicians, we will try to solve your current medical problem and detect or prevent other health problems. We hope to make the first visit not just an opportunity to deal with any medical concerns you may have but also a time to get acquainted with you.
The first examination
When you are called back to an exam room by one of our medical assistants, you will be asked to measure your height and weight and take your temperature. She will ask you about your reason for your visit, ask about any symptoms you might be having and get a brief medical history. Your physician will review the health questionnaire with you. Depending on your medical problem, you may be asked to undress and put on a gown in the privacy of the exam room. Depending on the reason for your visit, we may draw blood, get a urine specimen or take x-rays. This enables the doctor to better evaluate your health. After the examination, your physician will suggest a treatment plan and future visits, if necessary.

Lanier Family Healthcare is located at 5830 Bond Street, Cumming, Georgia in Vickery Village. We are on the corner of South Vickery Street and Bond Street on the second floor, directly above Vickery Cleaners (look for their neon blue sign). Our entrance is located through the double red doors to the right of the dry cleaners. Take the elevator to the second floor.
From South on Highway 9:
Turn right on Post Road and travel 2.1 miles (just past Vickery Creek Middle School). Turn left at the first light into Vickery Village, take an immediate left.
From Bethelview Road:
Take Kelly Mill Road or Pittman Road to Post Road and take a left to Vickery Village on the right. Turn right into Village and take an immediate left.
From the south on GA 400:
GA 400 North to McFarland Rd, take the second exit and cross over GA 400. Go approximately two miles to Highway 9/ Atlanta Highway and turn right at the light. Go 2.3 miles and turn left at Post Road just past the Publix Shopping Center. Go 2.1 miles and turn left at the next light onto South Vickery Street.
From Highway 141, Johns Creek area:
Turn left onto Majors Road until it dead ends into Shiloh Road. Turn right on Shiloh Road and immediately arrive at Highway 9, continue straight past Highway 9 (turns into Majors Rd), go through light at Castleberry Rd and 2 stop signs. Go straight through the second light into Vickery Village.
From Ronald Reagan Parkway:
Cross 141 and take a right on Majors Road until it dead ends on Shiloh Road. Turn right on Shiloh Road and you will immediately arrive at Highway 9. Go straight through Highway 9 (turns into Majors Road), go through light at Castleberry Rd and 2 stop signs. Go straight through the second light into Vickery Village.

Frequently Asked Questions
A. We have a provider “on call” after our office is closed to take care of your after-hours urgent medical needs. No refills on medications will be done after hours.
A. Yes. We have our own Radiology Suite within our office.
A. We accept most major insurance plans along with Medicare. We do not accept Medicaid. We also accept cash, checks and credit cards.
A. Fees vary based on the treatment, but we offer a discount plan to our cash paying clients. Ask us about our Direct Primary Care plan or visit the website at www.vickerydirectcare.com Of course, payment is expected in full at the time of service.
A. We have a provider “on call” after our office is closed to take care of your after-hours urgent medical needs. All non-urgent issues will need an appointment with our providers. No medication refills or prescribing of pain medications will be done after hours.
A. Everyone’s co-pay is different depending on your insurance plan. If your insurance card specifies a co-pay, we will collect that amount at the time of your visit. We do require a credit card to be left on file for any remaining balance on your account. Sometimes there is a co-insurance or deductible to be collected. We will call you after your insurance has paid their portion and notify you of the amount to be charged to your credit card.
A. Dr Orris is a Board-certified in emergency medicine and a trained family physician. We also have a well-trained and qualified certified Family Nurse Practitioner.
Q. Do you take walk-in appointments?
A: No. Our providers work from schedules so please call for an appointment. Same day appointments are usually available.
Q: I don't have insurance. Can you take partial payments for fee-for-service patients?
A: All fees that are the patient's responsibility are due at the time of service.
Q. You don't take my insurance but can you bill my insurance anyway?
A. No. We only bill our contracted healthcare plans. We will provide you with a copy of your charges so you can submit your claim to your healthcare plan.
Q. Can I come in to have my blood pressure checked without an appointment?
A: No. Blood pressure assessment in our office requires an appointment with your doctor. We suggest as an alternative going to the fire department or a grocery store/pharmacy if an appointment is not needed.

Q: I want to see a specialist, do I need a referral?
A: It depends on your insurance plan. If your plan requires a written referral, please make an appointment with your provider to evaluate the problem first. A family medicine physician is knowledgeable in all organ systems and diseases and will be able to make the determination whether further treatment by a specialist is needed.
Q. If I am sick, do I need an appointment or can I walk in?
A. Patients are seen by appointment only, but same-day appointments are available. Urgent appointments will be scheduled based on the type and severity of the problem. If you have a true medical emergency, call 911.
Q. Do you do blood work at your office?
A. Yes, we can draw your blood in our office and we will have your results in 7-10 business days or you can take a prescription to the lab of your choice to have it drawn.
Q. How will I be notified of test results?
A. Patients are typically notified of test results by a phone call from one of our nurses and they can also be accessed through the patient portal after the Doctor has reviewed them.
Q. How do I get my prescription refilled?
A. Your pharmacy can fax a refill request to our office at 770-205-5519. We do require 24 to 48 hours for a response. We are not able to refill prescriptions the same day so we ask that you plan ahead.
Please also keep in mind that some medication refills require patients to be seen before we can refill the medication. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Q: I was in a car accident, can you bill the car insurance?
A: We do not bill 3rd parties or take liens such as billing car insurance companies for motor vehicle accidents. We will bill the patient's primary and secondary health insurance company only. All other fees are due at the time of service.
Q: Can I see my doctor for a work related injury?
A: You can be seen by your doctor for any condition but we do not complete or file any Workman's Comp forms/paperwork. If you feel you have a work related injury and would like to process a Workman’s Comp claim, we suggest you go to Urgent Care or find out from your employer what clinic will handle your Workman's Comp claims.
Q: What should I do if something should happen over the weekend?
A: If you have a life-threatening emergency, you should dial 911. If you have an urgent need and need to speak with a Provider, you should call our office number at 770-205-5518 and you will be directed to the appropriate number for our answering service. The answering service will contact the provider on call who will return your call and address your concern.
